At Flossy & Willow, we LOVE the fact that the clocks are changing. A winter wedding always makes us happy and with November just around the corner, we can start talking about Christmas! Today, we’re sharing some great wedding ideas for longer nights so that we can all embrace winter with open arms.

Let’s start with wedding dresses because we don’t want to see any brides being their own ‘something blue’! Feeling cold is not what you want on your big day so for a winter wedding, choose your gown carefully.

We’re totally hooked on dresses with long sleeves right now and lace sleeves couldn’t be prettier. Some of our favourite designers include long sleeve gowns and tops in their collections so you can be snug and stylish. Take a look at the latest gowns from Catherine Deane and Willowby by Watters – they could have been designed with winter weddings in mind.

Keep it cosy…

Speaking about staying warm on your wedding day, how considering a wrap or shrug? You could opt for a feather bolero or a baby soft cardigan and we love seeing brides wearing coloured or sparkly numbers for that party season look. You could also indulge with velvet, leather or a chunky Christmas knit! We’ve got a great selection of cover-ups at Flossy & Willow so you can trial your look at your appointment.

If you’re going to be outside for any part of your winter wedding, don’t forget your feet! We’re not suggesting that you ditch the pretty heels for sensible boots but remember that soft, muddy ground is no friend of designer shoes. Instead, opt for shoes with a block heel and maybe ditch delicate fabrics such as suede. Of course, the best option is to have two pairs – a sensible pair AND the dream heels you’ve always wanted. It’s a green light for the Choos right there!

We can’t end this look at wedding ideas for longer nights without mentioning lingerie! Gorgeous nightwear is an absolute must and a beautiful robe or kimono makes photos on the morning of your wedding all the better. Our favourite label has to be the amazing Violet & Wren. Their botanical inspired prints are downright dreamy and utterly perfect for honeymoons too…

Yes, it’s definitely autumn now so we can say hello to one of our favourite seasons. We adore just about everything to do with this time of year and we know it’s a great time of year for weddings. So, if you’re planning a September, October or November celebration, here’s our list of autumn wedding essentials…

  1. You’ve got to love a layered look in the autumn so bring on the dresses, wraps and cardigans! This look will keep you warm, cosy and totally on trend so this is an absolute must. Gowns with lace over-skirts or tops that add lace over the bodice are great for this time of year. Totally beautiful, romantic and dreamy, they also look light and delicate on grey days.autumn wedding 1
  1. Bouquets for an autumn wedding really need to look wild and unstructured. Add in some berries, greenery and fabulous ribbons for the best effect.
  1. We’ve already mentioned wraps and cardigans for brides but how about baskets of blankets for guests? If the weather is kind, it’s great to be able to make the most of the outdoors so don’t forget the blankets! Swathe yourself in them or snuggle up under them, we really don’t care!autumn wedding 2
  1. We do love an eyecatching backdrop at weddings and autumnal backdrops are the best. Again, keep them really natural looking, add in some coloured blooms and even some pillar candles alongside and you’ve got a great focus point for photos.
  1. An autumnal flower crown might not be as packed with petals as its summery cousin but you can still rock this boho look in autumn. Twists of twigs and berries look absolutely amazing – we’re crushing on this natural-luxe vibe.
  1. When autumn rolls around, forget the chilled drinks and bring out warming signature cocktails. Mulled ciders are our favourites, especially when they’re served in gorgeous copper mugs with a cinnamon stick on the side. Hot chocolate stations are also loads of fun – add shots of liqueurs to the grown-up versions.autumn wedding 3
  1. The single tier cake trend is definitely one of our faves right now. We love barely-there iced beauties topped with seasonal fruits, berries and flowers. Oozing maple syrup is an optional (but delicious) extra!
  1. To really work the seasonal look, make sure that your autumn wedding colour palette is perfect for this time of year. Keep everything natural and take inspiration from berries, apples, plums, pumpkins, leafy browns and dark blue skies.

Don’t forget that autumn also sees the arrival of new wedding dress collections to the boutique. Keep up to date with all of the Flossy & Willow news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagramand why not get social with Perfect Day Bride too? You’ll find our big sister on Twitter, Instagramand Facebook too.

As you can imagine, we hear a lot of things from brides to be when they visit our Wiltshire bridal boutique. There’s quite often a lot of chat about wanting to look and feel fantastic on their wedding day! We’re completely against crazy diets but we totally get that your wedding can be the perfect incentive to kick-start a healthy new regime. Wholesome food and great exercise give you a confidence that’s just brilliant so today we’re chatting to personal trainer Laura Phelps to find out more.

Laura has been a personal trainer for more than five years and she really knows what she’s talking about. She’s stuck to her own plan and lost 2.5 stone through exercise and she’s worked with loads of clients to help them achieve their own healthy goals. Laura is also super approachable and down-to-earth so if you think personal trainers are all scary, think again!

Firstly, take heart from the fact that we’ve all got similar hang-ups when it comes to our bodies as Laura explains:

“Typically, we all worry about our legs, bums and tums. I also get complaints about bingo wings but it all comes down to confidence. It’s amazing to see how a few tips, tricks and a little bit of support can change someone’s outlook on themselves. A few changes can allow them to achieve more than they every imagined they could.”

So whilst we can help you choose a dress that flatters your fab features and draws the attention to your best bits, Laura can help you feel great for your wedding day and beyond.

“Aside from the health benefits of getting fit and making exercise a habit, the confidence and general happiness that it brings should never be forgotten. People too often see exercise as a chore but if you take part in an activity that works well for you, the benefits are endless. One of my mottos is ‘healthy from the inside out’ and it’s a full package. If you look at exercise as part of your overall wellbeing, you’ll be healthy, happy and more balanced too.”

So, all this sounds great but how long do you need to devote to your new healthy habits to really see a difference?

“I always go with six, eight and twelve week markers to be realistic. It can take six weeks to kill bad habits and build new, healthy ones as well as starting to see sustainable weight loss. By eight weeks, it’s likely that others will be noticing the difference in your appearance and you’ll be feeling confident like never before. After twelve weeks, the changes will be visible and you’ll be hitting the goals that you set for yourself.”

“I love building people up and allowing them to become the best version of themselves and achieve the goals they set for themselves. All the results we achieve are down to the individual. My clients put in all the work; I just give them the tools to get there. I’ve worked with so many different people of all ages, shapes and sizes and everyone wants to change for different reasons.  It’s always so lovely to watch someone journey with me and grow in confidence.”

There’s never been a better time to start taking steps towards a healthy lifestyle, for whatever reason. It’s something you’ll never regret.

Ah, the Great British Summer – it’s a brilliant time of year for a wedding and today, we’re ignoring the weathermen and the dark clouds and keeping it positive by looking at all of those items that a summer wedding really shouldn’t be without. From food to fun to photos, we’ve got your seasonal celebration covered…

Summer- Wedding-1When you think about a summer wedding, you think about sunshine and we can’t get enough of the long, light days. Embrace the warmer weather and let the guys kick back with some cool shorts instead of hot and stuffy formal suits. This is a brilliant look for relaxed weddings and there’s more chance of your groom wearing his outfit afterwards for sure!

You also have to make the most of the summer ‘golden hour’ for the most gorgeous photographs. This hour, usually in the hour before sunset, produces soft, romantic light and it’s responsible for those luscious summer wedding photos you’ve probably been swooning over on the blogs. Don’t miss it!

Every wedding needs fab food and drink and you can have a lot of fun in the summer. Signature cocktails are always our favourite things and a quirky or show-stopping mix-up will always be popular. Candyfloss and champagne? That would be a yes. Pretty picnics are an ace alternative to a traditional wedding breakfast and, because we’re all kids at heart, finish up with some delicious artisan ice cream. Yum.

Lawn games are a definite must-have at a summer wedding and you’ll discover competitive tendencies among your guests that you never knew existed! Games are perfect ice breakers so crack open that croquet kit! On a more practical note, don’t forget little comfort kits. Fill a couple of little baskets with sun cream, blister plasters, insect repellant and anything that your guests might need on a hot day and leave them in the cloakrooms so that they can help themselves in time of need.

A summer wedding really needs to make the most of the great outdoors. Hire in some fab furniture and set up an outside lounge. Sofas, cushions, tables and even include some wraps or blankets so that you can all sit up late into the night together. We also LOVE creative lighting at summer weddings so why not fill trees with lanterns or fairy lights or create candlelit walkways through gardens? You can also create real features with lighting and this outside bar is just all kinds of super.

Lastly, we’re sure you won’t want your summer wedding to be over so why not plan another get together when you’re home from honeymoon? Set up a ‘cinema’ in your garden and invite your besties for an exclusive screening of your wedding film!

It’s been a crazy busy few weeks at Flossy & Willow and, with wedding season in full flow, all things matrimonial are never far from our minds at the moment. Everything around us is super inspiring and we’re finding an awful lot to love in all kinds of place. So, we thought we’d share a few of the things that we’re loving right now because, you know, you can never have enough wedding inspo!

After spending FAR too long swooning over the delights of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, we’re all about big florals right now, especially those that include masses of seasonal British blooms. Whether we’re talking about oversize bouquets, statement installations or impressive tablecentres, we just can’t get enough and who cares about the hayfever?!

Our favourite regional wedding magazine has released another brilliant issue and, as always, we’re loving it. VOW is free to download wherever you are and its clean design really makes us happy. Of course, the latest issue makes us really happy because a shoot we were part of fills quite a few pages but there’s loads more to enjoy with VOW and we’re smitten with the fashion-led style of this fantastic mag.

We’ve always loved the bright and vibrant Bespoke Bride and now, we have to admit that we’re spending a bit (OK, a lot. A very lot.) of time browsing their new BB Boutique. The edible flower lollipop favours are on our list of faves as is pretty much everything in the décor category. The copper decorative wire letters are brand perfect for Flossy & Willow and we’re very tempted by the massive canvases that you and your guests can colour in!

No, we’ve not turned trainspotter but we adored seeing so many gowns with bridal-ready trains gracing the red carpet at the recent Cannes Film Festival. As well as the traditional trains, we loved the capes and details on the dresses of the best dressed. Also, colour and pattern – it was great to see bold colours and eye-catching patterns aplenty. Loving, for sure.

We’ve also all been reading Katrina Otter’s latest feature on Love My Dress all about unexpected wedding costs – if you’ve not seen it yet, hop on over now to check it out. Finally, we’re also head-over-heels, can’t-stop-smiling in love with Benjamin Roberts for reasons that will become clear very soon…
