6 Wedding Traditions It’s Totally Acceptable To Ignore

There are countless wedding traditions out there but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stick to them. Here at Flossy and Willow, we truly believe that your big day should be a reflection of you and a celebration of your love story. There are no rules when it comes to planning your wedding day, so pick and choose the traditions that you like. Personalise and adapt your special day so that it feels like ‘you’. Give your wedding day a modern edge and give these wedding traditions the boot…

6 Wedding Traditions It's Totally Acceptable To Ignore

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: The Ceremony

One of the most well-known wedding traditions is that the bride should not see the groom before the ceremony, otherwise it will bring bad luck to the marriage. However, we’re saying goodbye to this superstition and instead we’re all about the ‘first look’. We’re huge fans of the first look for many reasons. It’s ultra-romantic and means you can both steal five minutes together ahead of a busy day of celebrations, where it’s unlikely you’ll spend much time alone together. It also offers you the chance to capture some truly magical photographs that you’ll be able to treasure for years to come. It’s also a great way to calm any nerves you may have ahead of the ceremony. So, if you want something a little different for your big day, be sure to add the first look into your wedding timeline!

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: Aisle Style

We’re all about fashion-forward aisle style here at Flossy and Willow, so we’re always keeping a close eye on the latest bridal fashion trends and looks. For brides who want something totally untraditional for their wedding outfit, consider rocking a stylish jumpsuit or chic bridal separates – you’ll love everything about Catherine Deane. Alternatively, you can add a modern edge to a traditional white wedding dress by donning a personalised leather jacket. The best news is, you can wear it after the wedding day!

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: Bridal Party

While there is nothing quite as special as having your closest friends and family stand next to you as you say ‘I Do’, don’t think you have to have a bridal party. More and more couples are saying goodbye to this tradition, instead asking their loved ones to be a part of their special day by doing a reading during the ceremony.

6 Wedding Traditions It's Totally Acceptable To Ignore

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: Wedding Favours

If the thought of spending hours thinking about a wedding favour that your guests will actually like and use, not to mention the cost, doesn’t take your fancy don’t fret. Forget about this wedding tradition – your guests really won’t mind and spending the day celebrating your happily ever after is more than enough. You’ll be throwing a great party, who needs wedding favours anyway?

6 Wedding Traditions It's Totally Acceptable To Ignore

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: Venues

Couples are getting seriously creative when it comes to choosing the setting for their special day. Gone are the days when a traditional wedding venue such as a hotel or castle was the only option. Brides and grooms are instead opting for unique and edgy locations such as abandoned warehouses, quirky factories or loft spaces with tonnes of style. So, if you can’t imagine tying the knot in a traditional wedding venue, you don’t have to!

6 Wedding Traditions It's Totally Acceptable To Ignore

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: Food & Drink

Talking about creativity, it doesn’t just stop at the wedding venue. Traditional wedding breakfasts are being replaced with incredible food displays that your guests will adore feasting on! We’re talking statement doughnut walls, taco bars and stylish street food trucks galore! Delicious AND cool.

6 Wedding Traditions It's Totally Acceptable To Ignore

Wedding Traditions To Ignore: Elopements

We can’t get enough of elopement weddings. They’re so personal, romantic and a seriously special way to start the next chapter in your life. It’s a moment that just the two of you can share together and we can certainly see why more and more couples are ignoring tradition in place of an elopement wedding.

6 Wedding Traditions It's Totally Acceptable To Ignore

Which wedding traditions will you be sticking to and which will you be giving the boot? We’d love to know! For even more wedding inspiration, pop over to the F & W Blog or check out our gorgeous collection of Bridal Designers.

The Bride’s Guide to the Morning of your Wedding Day

So, picture the scene. It’s the morning of your wedding day and you can’t believe the big day has finally arrived. In just a handful of hours you’ll be making your way to the ceremony and walking down the aisle to become a ‘Mrs’. It doesn’t get more exciting (or nerve-wracking) than that, right? That will soon be you so it’s time to listen up, as we’re telling you everything you need to know and do on the morning of your wedding.

The Bride's Guide to the Morning of your Wedding Day

The Morning of your Wedding Day

Breath, savour and enjoy. Crack open a bottle of Champagne and soak up every second of the morning. It feels like you’ve been waiting for this moment forever, but it’ll whizz by before you’ve even realised so make sure you enjoy it! Spend the time with your bridesmaids and family reminiscing about the wedding planning journey and get seriously excited for what’s around the corner. Pre-wedding bubbles, giggles and a quick pamper session are exactly what you need to get rid of those nervous jitters! Plus, it’s an incredibly special time to share with your nearest and dearest before the big day continues…

The Bride's Guide to the Morning of your Wedding Day

Get organised early on. Prepare all of your underwear, accessories, jewellery and make-up tidily so that you know where everything is and you can avoid any chance of panic. But we always say, wedding planning can be such a stressful time that generally nothing will phase you on the morning of your wedding day!

The Bride's Guide to the Morning of your Wedding Day

If you want to be even more organised, why not create a morning of the wedding schedule for you and your bridal party? It’ll be super handy to know when everyone should be waking up, what time your hair and make-up artist will be arriving, who’s getting what done and when, and also so that you know when you need to head to your ceremony. It may sound a little OTT, but it will save everyone asking you what time they need to be everywhere – that will be the last thing you want on the morning of your wedding day!

The Bride's Guide to the Morning of your Wedding Day

Waterproof mascara is a must-have for any bride, especially on the morning of your wedding day! The moment you step out in your wedding dress and see the reaction of your dad, mum and bridesmaids is guaranteed to be emotional. We always recommend making sure you ask your photographer to capture this truly magical moment as it’s one you will always want to look back on, and it means you can treasure it long after your special day.

The Bride's Guide to the Morning of your Wedding Day

This may sound obvious, but make sure you allocate enough time on the morning of your wedding day to actually put your dress on – it’s not as simple as chucking on a pair of jeans and T-shirt. By allowing extra time, it means there is no rush to put your dress on and it’ll give you a few moments to take it all in. We suggest bringing a bridesmaid or a member of the bridal party along to your final fitting at the boutique so they know how to put on your gown. It can be a big task (and with the extra pre-wedding nerves) so it’s important you know what you’re about to tackle!

Style Guide: Groomswear Trends To Look Out For in 2018

So, you may have spotted our predicted wedding and bridal trends over on Perfect Day Bride, but don’t fret, as we haven’t forgotten about the grooms! We’ve been keeping a close eye on the anticipated groomswear trends for next year, and we can’t wait to share them with you in today’s feature. Grab your hubby-to-be, as this is one for him to read! Let’s get started and find out what you can expect next year…

Style Guide: Groomswear Trends To Look Out For in 2018

Choosing your suit can be just as exciting and overwhelming as the bride picking out her dress. You will find that you are absolutely spoilt, with an incredible range of styles, cuts and colours to choose from. But first things first, before you start the search for your suit, there a few things to think about beforehand. Take into account the season – are you tying the knot in Summer? Then you may want to wear something a little lighter than a traditional three-piece suit. If you’re having a cosy Winter affair, make sure you opt for a suit where you will stay warm all day long – even with those chilly outdoor wedding photographs! Consider your colour palette and wedding theme, you want your suit to fit in with everything perfectly.

You want to feel comfortable, confident and most importantly, like ‘you’ on your wedding day. If you often wear braces or a bow-tie, be sure to incorporate them into your aisle style. You’re going to be wearing your suit all day long and you want to be able to look back at your photographs with pride. Make sure your groomswear reflects your individual style and personality, and then you’re guaranteed to look great.

Let’s talk about trends. Add a hint of luxury to your wedding outfit with a variety of jewel tones. This trend has been a firm favourite in the world of weddings and it looks like it’s here to stay. Plush navy, dashing emerald and rich burgundy are all making appearances in groomswear trends. A modern take on a traditional look, this trend offers you the chance to wear something a little different for your celebrations.

The colour palette looks particularly handsome paired with velvet – we’re talking a smart velvet jacket, bow-tie or waistcoat. Velvet is currently huge in the fashion world and it’s a great option if you’re having an Autumn or Winter wedding in 2018.

It’s time to accessorise! Think carefully about how you are planning on accessorising your wedding day look, as this can effortlessly transform any suit. Stylish hats, leather braces and vintage-inspired pocket watches are all dapper ways to add something unique to your aisle style. Plus, they make a super gift to open on the morning of the wedding!

Whether you want a high end or high street suit, you’re guaranteed to find something to suit your style with the help of our groomswear trends and style guide.

Swoon-Worthy Autumn Wedding Inspiration and Ideas

Autumn conjures up all kinds of cosiness for us here at Flossy & Willow, from the crisp leaves to delicious mugs of hot chocolate and of course, the gorgeous colour palettes. The season offers so much gorgeous inspiration for Autumn weddings, so it’s no wonder that it is becoming one of the most popular times of the year to tie the knot. If an Autumn wedding takes your fancy, keep reading and discover some of the most swoon-worthy inspiration for your special day…

Swoon-Worthy Autumn Wedding Inspiration and Ideas rockmywedding.co.uk - rosstalling.co.uk

When it comes to choosing a colour scheme for your Autumn wedding celebration, you’ll find that the options really are endless. Whether you choose a luxurious palette bursting with jewel tones, a rustic theme with lots of forest green hues, or a traditional celebration with heaps of orange, red and brown shades, it’s going to look incredible. We’ve taken inspiration from all three colour palettes – as we simply couldn’t choose!

Swoon-Worthy Autumn Wedding Inspiration and Ideas rockmywedding.co.uk - foxandowl.uk

For your gorgeous team of ‘maids, we’ve written all about how to pull off the mix and match trend here. Bridesmaid dresses in different designs, colours and styles will look utterly divine, and they’ll still look coordinated and as part of the bridal party.

As beautiful as Autumn is, it can also be much chillier! Be sure to wrap up warm on your wedding day as there is nothing worse than being cold, especially on the most important day of your life. A vintage leather jacket will not only look stylish, it’ll keep you cosy throughout your outdoor wedding photographs. Alternatively, you could don a cosy cashmere knit on your special day – the contrast of the knitwear against your wedding dress will look incredible. However, a simple shawl will also do the trick, and you could even supply your guests with a wicker basket full of shawls, rugs and blankets.

Swoon-Worthy Autumn Wedding Inspiration and Ideas rockmywedding.co.uk - matthoranphotography.com

We suggest using lots of wooden details and decorations throughout your Autumn wedding. This will help to create a modern yet rustic vibe for your big day, as well as maintaining that cosy and ethereal atmosphere. You can use wooden signs to decorate your venue and they’re the perfect way of filling up an empty space. From your seating plan to directions, wooden signs are super useful and they just happen to look lovely. You could also serve your guests seasonal cocktails or hot cocoa on wooden trays. Little wooden name tags would make the sweetest place name cards, and they can double up as wedding favours too.

While Summer may offer plenty of beautiful blooms, don’t be fooled! Autumn is one of the most magical times of the year for wedding flowers and foliage. Blooms have such impact at your wedding venue and they can be used in lots of delightful ways throughout your big day. Use a mixture of foliage and greenery teamed with chocolate cosmos, ranunculus and roses to decorate a wooden archway, within your centrepieces or to use in your bridal bouquet.

You can work in lots of textures too for an extra seasonal touch – we adore the idea of adding Pheasant feathers or thistles to your bouquet or table centrepieces. Your florist will be able to guide you on which flowers are in season for Autumn, but don’t worry about there being a lack of gorgeous posies!

Stylish Ways To Create A Marble Metallic Wedding Theme

Wedding themes often take inspiration from home interior décor ideas and styles. Marble and metallic are two huge trends for both interiors and wedding themes, which is why today we’re showing you how you can recreate an ultra-modern marble metallic wedding theme for your very own special day. The best news? It’s effortlessly easy and it’s guaranteed to create an envy-inducing wedding day that oozes style, glamour and luxury…

5 Stylish Ways To Create A Marble Metallic Wedding Theme

Let’s start with your wedding ceremony. Couples are starting to choose much more creative spaces for their ceremony and we think it’s a great opportunity to make the most of your wedding venue. A copper or golden archway looks incredible adorned with wild greenery and foliage, or your favourite blooms. If you do opt for floral decorations, we suggest choosing flowers that match your wedding bouquet for a completely coordinated look. A metallic wedding archway can transform the simplest of spaces, whether it’s against a stark white wall or in an industrial location. We recommend surrounding the archway with a couple of geometric lanterns for an extra metallic touch.

While we’re on the subject of lanterns, we cannot stress enough the impact that candlesticks, tea-lights and lanterns can have at your wedding venue. They’re a chance to decorate your wedding venue with simple yet stylish items, and they’ll create a romantic glow throughout the day into the evening. Marble tea-light holders will look chic surrounding your table centrepieces, dotted along window sills or on your gift table. Opt for metallic-coloured candles for a dash of luxe.

When it comes to your wedding table centrepieces, there are so many gorgeous ways to create a marble metallic wedding theme. Tall marble vases brimming with greenery such as trailing Ivy and Eucalyptus will look perfect along your tables. Alternatively, copper terrariums filled with succulents, cacti and air-plants will create a modern vibe.

Don’t forget about your place settings either, as they will transform your wedding tables and will help to tie your theme in together. Team copper charger plates and cutlery with marble place name cards – the combination will look luxurious and stylish. You could ask a calligrapher to handwrite the name of each guest onto a marble card in metallic ink, so they can double up as favours too. You could also use the same design for your wedding seating plan, your guests will love finding their seats!

Let’s not overlook your wedding cake either – marble and metallic wedding cakes are still a huge trend for 2017. Brides and grooms often overlook the wedding cake table, but it can so easily be a focal point of your wedding reception. Add an edgy, industrial vibe into your wedding day by displaying a marble and metallic iced cake on concrete blocks. Why not use a metallic cake topper too? Your cake will undoubtedly look too good to eat.

The Most Beautiful Mother of the Bride Moments Ever

Happy Mother’s Day! Seeing as today is all about our wonderful Mothers, we thought we would share with you our favourite Mother of the bride moments. We’ve found some of the most special wedding photographs out there.  For most brides, your Mum will play a huge part in both the wedding planning journey and wedding day. Whether it’s the occasional word of wisdom, wedding advice or a helping hand with decorations. Mums really are superstars!

The Most Beautiful Mother of the Bride Moments Ever

The Most Beautiful Mother of the Bride Moments Ever

There are heaps of heart-meltingly beautiful moments between the bride and her Mother. One of our favourites is definitely the ‘first look’. This is such a special moment for your wedding photographer to capture and it’s something that both you and your Mother will treasure forever.  We love the fact that your photographer has the ability to capture a million different emotions in one picture. It’s the moment that your Mother has the first glimpse of her little girl all dressed up in her wedding gown, ready to begin married life. It can be a happy time where excitement surrounds the room, but it can also be a bittersweet moment for parents.

If you love the thought of capturing a ‘first look’ with your Mum, we recommend planning it with your photographer in advance. You’ll need to allow some time before the ceremony so that the photographer can set up and so you can make it a really special moment without feeling rushed. Letting your photographer know will also mean they are there at the right time.

There are so many other beautiful emotions and images for your wedding photographer to capture. Get a snapshot of your Mother helping you to put on your wedding dress, adjusting your veil or waiting for you to walk down the aisle. The emotional moments really are endless, but they’re all equally beautiful.
